'Musicians from the Gewandhaus Orchestra open the weekend with the music of Franz Schubert. The Gewandhaus Orchestra’s 2022 Deutsche Grammophon recording of Schubert’s late symphonies was widely acclaimed, the unique sound of this orchestra an ideal match for Schubert’s crystalline musical language. Schubert’s Octet is a masterpiece for this ensemble of instruments, which represent a cross-section of the symphony orchestra. It is paired here with his Six Moments Musicaux for solo piano, in a new arrangement for octet by composer Hans Abrahamsen, created especially for this performance.'
