UKARIA 24 - Visionary Friendship

Monday 11 June 2018  |  2:30PM

In 2010, Nicolas Altstaedt gave a highly acclaimed performance of the Schumann Cello Concerto with the Vienna Philharmonic under Gustavo Dudamel at the Lucerne Festival. Since then, the concerto has become a staple in his repertoire. For this performance, he leads the talented young musicians of Momentum Ensemble in a new arrangement for soloist and string orchestra by Michael Waterman.

And what better work to pair it with than the monumental second Piano Quartet of Brahms? Vilde Frang, Lawrence Power, Nicolas Altstaedt and Denis Kozhukhin unite to form a powerhouse quartet in the thrilling conclusion to UKARIA 24.

‘Above all, [Denis Kozhukhin] is natural, and this naturalness allows him to create an impression of unaffected simplicity and directness. Of course, this could only be achieved by deeply cultivated musical instincts and a technique as developed and varied as it is unobtrusive. His inerrant rhythmic sense is pliant yet taught; his sound unalloyed silver. Listening to Kozhukhin, you’re left with one thing: the music – incontestable, complete.’
