'beautiful… showcases the instrument’s versatility and depths of colour and timbre attainable.'
– BBC Music Magazine
American-born, Australian-based harpist Emily Granger, Principal Harp of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, presents 'A Thing of Beauty' – a recital tracing her artistic journey through contemporary music for solo harp.
The program features new commissions by Alice Chance, Anne Cawrse, and Hilary Kleinig, each exploring distinct aspects of harp writing: from miniature suites and modal lyricism to atmospheric soundscapes and playful dances. These world premieres form the heart of Granger’s new solo album and reflect her enduring advocacy for living composers.
Alongside these works are pieces drawn from long-standing artistic collaborations. From Ross Edwards’ meditative textures and Tristan Coelho’s rhythmic intricacies to audience favourites by American harpists Laura Zaerr and Deborah Henson-Conant, the program showcases the breadth and expressive range of the modern harp.
