Rattled by the bones of convicts and steeped in campfire smoke, Bush Gothic perform darker, stranger Australian folk. This most daring of Australian bush bands play music that’s defiantly modern, achingly old: songs of criminal women and desperate men from an era of transportation. The Guardian describes fiddle-singer and band leader Jenny M. Thomas as an ‘edgy rising folk star’. Together with double bassist Dan Witton, drummer Chris Lewis and The Lonely String Quartet, their concerts in gaols, concert halls and goldfields have been reviewed as ‘outstanding’, ‘mesmerising’ and ‘utterly riveting’. Theatrical, subversive Bush Gothic present familiar ballads as you’ve never heard them.
