Dobet Gnahoré has verve. She is a GRAMMY Award-winning singer, dancer, percussionist and songwriter from Côte d'Ivoire, who has brought a distinctive fusion of traditional and progressive styles to Afropop. Her artistry is vivid. Her words are potent. She speaks of both the hope and the reality of life, and her musicality gives multilingual lyrics universal scope.
On her way to performing at Vivid Sydney, Dobet Gnahoré is bringing her latest acclaimed album to UKARIA. Zouzou, which means ‘angel’ in French, radiates with influences from the bustling city of Abidjan. To curate this masterpiece of sound, colour and dance, Gnahoré collaborated with producer Momo Wang, director Jyphael Tayorault, and leading costume-designers, makeup-artists, dancers and photographers from Côte d'Ivoire. Returning to Australia for the first time since WOMADelaide 2012, Gnahoré and her three-piece band offer us an unplugged experience at UKARIA – an exquisite opportunity to witness their diverse artistry in the most intimate setting.
