Returning to Australia, and to UKARIA, for the first time since 2019, VOCES8 will be Ensemble-in-Residence for our 2024 A Cappella Academy. Festival Statesmen Chorus (directed by Jonathan Bligh) will appear in the second half of this concert, which will culminate in a special collaborative performance with VOCES8. Directed by Timothy Wayne-Wright (a former member of The King's Singers), the A Cappella Academy launched globally at UKARIA in 2022.

‘If there was ever a group to epitomise the joy of singing, it would be the Festival Statesmen Chorus! I have been stunned by their recent performances, and the trajectory of their improvement since last year is astonishing. Jonathan [Bligh] has worked tirelessly with his singers and taken on board all of the topics and techniques raised in the past two UKARIA academies. I've loved seeing how open the group was to coming out of their comfort zone – enjoying the challenge of experimenting with new ideas that I've thrown at them. They embraced the idea of story-telling and making the text the number one priority, producing meaningful and beautiful narratives through their singing.’
