A euphoric morning of music from two of the Romantic era's leading voices
Fanny Mendelssohn's String Quartet in E-flat Major, composed in 1834, showcases this incredible figure of the Romantic era's exceptional abilities in writing for string quartet. Her only mature work in the genre – at times ravishingly dramatic and at others stunningly rhapsodic – demonstrates her unique musical voice, mastery of intricate harmonies and emotional expression.
Paired with this is Antonin Dvořák's melodically rich and festival String Quartet No. 14 – the composer's final instrumental chamber work – brimming with inventive interplay and influences from the composer's experiences abroad and connection to his Bohemian homeland's folk traditions.
Presented by the Australian String Quartet.
