Ray Brown called him 'The Genius' but Wynton Marsalis said it best: 'Man, James Morrison can play!'

Best known for his blistering virtuosity as a trumpeter, Australian jazz luminary James Morrison is a household name. He's played with international legends including Dave Brubeck, Ray Charles, Dizzy Gillespie, and Quincy Jones, and boasts remarkable skill across multiple instruments – from saxophone to lower brass, to guitar, piano, and double bass. Founder of the James Morrison Academy of Music in Mount Gambier, his association with the Generations in Jazz festival has spanned over three decades, providing great inspiration for many emerging jazz artists. When asked about his extraordinary career, James declared: 'This is just the warm-up!'

Nurturing the talent of young musicians, the James Morrison Quartet features James' sons William Morrison (guitar) and Harry Morrison (double bass), along with Patrick Danao (a graduate of the James Morrison Academy) on drums. The group has taken the international music scene by storm, appearing at major festivals such as the BBC Proms with superstar Dianne Reeves, the Melbourne International Jazz Festival with Patti Austin, alongside performances at famous jazz venues including Ronnie Scott's in London.

James Morrison is based in Mount Gambier for the rest of the year, so this concert will not be impacted by border closures. For their UKARIA debut, the Quartet will present a beautiful chronology of the history of jazz, from swinging standards and sublime ballads, to haunting Latin numbers and a few originals by Morrison himself and other Australian jazz greats.
