Finding Our Voice

Finding Our Voice is an innovative approach to the music festival. It presented and promoted live performances of eight new musical works across Australia. Each new creation was presented live in an iconic Australian venue, and the performances have been filmed for presentation on the Finding Our Voice website, which also hosts films about the making of each new work – stories about the composers and creators – as well as educational resources for composing music, inspired by each commission. Finding Our Voice encourages engagement, creativity and skill building around some of the most striking music being made in Australia today.

“Australia is rich in brilliant music makers. Finding Our Voice creates a national portrait in sound of our most exciting composers, working in wildly diverse ways. We’re passionate about introducing them, their stories, and their music to you. Listening to them helps us hear, celebrate and connect with one another, and our country.”

– Artistic Director, Genevieve Lacey

The project was supported by UKARIA, the Australian Government's Restart Investment to Sustain and Expand (RISE) Fund, and the following individuals and foundations: Ulrike Klein AO, Berg Family Foundation, The Yulgilbar Foundation, The Aranday Foundation, Playking Foundation and Julie Kantor AO.
