ALEXANDER SITKOVETSKY
AND KATHRYN STOTT

Saturday 15 August 2020  |  4:30PM

THE MAGIC HOUR:
TWILIGHT OF THE BELLE EPOQUE

Sunset: Approximately 5.44pm

‘Sitkovetsky harks back to an older tradition of violin playing not often heard these days.’

The Washington Post

Born in Moscow, Alexander Sitkovetsky is the nephew of legendary violinist, conductor and arranger Dmitry Sitkovetsky, and a founding member of the Sitkovetsky Trio (known to Australian audiences through their critically acclaimed tours for Musica Viva).

Alexander’s concerto debut came at the age of eight, and in the same year he moved to the UK to study at the Yehudi Menuhin School. He’s since toured with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, performed at the Royal Albert Hall with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and appeared at festivals such as Kuhmo, Cheltenham, Verbier and Lockenhaus with Janine Jansen, Mischa Maisky and Natalie Clein.

British pianist Kathryn Stott also studied at the Yehudi Menuhin School, whose visiting artists included Nadia Boulanger and Vlado Perlemuter (a pupil of Maurice Ravel), who instilled in Kathryn a lifelong love of French repertoire. Her pianism has been described as ‘plush, richly textured and straight from the heart’ (The Advertiser). Rediscover the language of enchantment as Alexander and Kathryn play masterpieces from the Belle Epoque against a backdrop of receding light.
