UKARIA 24 – THE SPIRIT OF COMPASSION:
A TRIBUTE TO NIGEL WESTLAKE

CURATED BY DIANA DOHERTY

THE SPIRIT OF COMPASSION: A TRIBUTE TO NIGEL WESTLAKE

‘Doherty was utterly remarkable in her endless chains of scurrying solos, giving the solo oboe the quality of a wild-born creature revelling in its own natural energy.’

The Australian

Diana Doherty and Nigel Westlake have been friends for nearly a decade. Nigel is one our greatest living composers, and Diana pays tribute to his tremendous contribution to Australian music by dedicating the final concert to his oeuvre.

Great performers inspire composers and the central works on this program, Spirit of the Wild and Compassion, were written for Diana and Lior respectively. In the thrilling conclusion to UKARIA, experience these monumental works back to back in an afternoon celebrating the incomparable art of Nigel Westlake, performed by the artists who inspired him.
