‘An orchestra that, by any standards, is one of the wonders of the musical world today.’

– The Guardian

The Australian Chamber Orchestra (ACO) is a national treasure. For over forty years, it has paired the country’s greatest musicians with some of the world’s greatest old Italian instruments, achieving a sound that is unmistakably its own.

In June 2019 you’ll have the chance to hear them like never before as Richard Tognetti leads the ACO at UKARIA for the very first time in a program of lively dances and ethereal reveries. Richard Meale’s Cantilena Pacifica was written as a eulogy, with the violin soaring lyrically over the orchestra. The Italian composer Ottorino Respighi held an affinity with music of the past, and in his Ancient Airs and Dances he evokes the brilliance of the Baroque and Renaissance.

Also on the program is the Australian premiere of a new work by leading Latvian composer Pēteris Vasks. Full of depth and grace, Viatore is written for eleven solo strings and is a perfect fit for the ACO’s orchestra of soloists. The afternoon concludes with Benjamin Britten’s Variations on a Theme of Frank Bridge, the work that brought the composer international fame.
