JAZZ AT UKARIA – CURATED BY PAUL GRABOWSKY

For the past two years, we’ve experienced the magic of Paul Grabowsky accompanying some of the great voices of our land. In his next series at UKARIA, you’ll experience an even purer distillation of the man and his music, allowing Paul’s own art to take centre stage.

James Morrison makes his first appearance, joining Kram (of Spiderbait fame) and Paul in a knockout collaboration, in addition to two intimate trio concerts. On these special Saturday evenings, UKARIA becomes a jazz club like no other. Lounge on a comfy sofa, or sit at one of our round tables and enjoy a cheese platter and a glass of wine – or perhaps even a scotch – as Australia’s finest jazz luminaries make art right in front of you.

‘All art is latent until the moment it is received by the viewer, listener or reader, at which point it ignites, catching fire in the atmosphere of the mind. The work and its audience only really exist in relation to each other, in a kind of transcendental feedback loop. A work is never the same twice: no matter how many times we encounter it, our experience is dependent on circumstance. Art is also an offering; the artist rearranges our dreams, our deepest hopes and fears, serving up the smoke and foam of our subconscious in surprising combinations.’
